For project 3, I am making public furniture for Victoria Avenue pedestrian mall at chatswood. Chatswood is the one of the north shore’s marjor commercial and retail districts. Have two major shopping centers, Chatswood chase and Westfield Chatswood are all located on victoria avenue. Furthermore, Chatswood railway station is at the end of the pedestrian mall. So every day many people will come to the pedestrian mall take train or bus, shopping, having lunch or dinner and so on.
My idea is to design a waste bin can serve more people and make the pedestrian mall much nicer.
According to my observation and research, dustman came to the pedestrian mall to clean the waste bin approx once a day, in the early morning. But as the bins are not big enough sometime the bins would full very quickly and some waste in bins is recyclable. So that is why I decided design a waste bin have a large volume and a bin for recycled.
Materials used for my design are stainless steel for structure, timber for outside looks, and HDPE for inside bins. I want my design have the same style with furniture around it. The chairs and benches on the pedestrian mall are designed curved shape. And the chairs are made by timber and stainless steel. So my design is curved shape and use timber to protect outside. I also use yellow for recycle bin and red for garbage bin.
I hope my design can give user a nice mood when they throw waste. And also remained them protect our living environment by put recyclable waste into yellow recycle bin. I think my design can contribute a little bit to reduce pollution.
